Our story
A house at the end of the marina
The building went up when Vilamoura was still mostly pine trees and a plan on paper. For years it was a sailing club with eleven rooms above the bar. When we took it on, the tiles were cracked and the terrace was full of stacked chairs. We kept the arches and the blue azulejos in the stairwell, and rebuilt everything else around a simple idea: a hotel where the staff know your name by the second morning.
The old boat store became the Herona Bay casino, the ground floor our kitchen and bar, and the roof a pool with the best view of the marina we could find.

Rooftop pool
Above the masts
The pool runs the length of the roof, with loungers on the marina side and shade on the other. The bar opens at noon from April to October and serves cold plates, fruit and the kind of drinks that take a while to make. In the evening the loungers turn to face the sunset.

The Herona Bay Casino
One floor below the lobby, the casino opens when the marina lights come on: slot machines along the wall, roulette and card tables in the middle, and a bar where the marina crowd gathers once the boats are in. Open to residents and visitors alike, from 18 up.
